What is Creative Self Care for Teens?

 

It’s a live, in-person course to learn the skills to cultivate self-care—just for teens!

In it, they’ll learn to love their bodies from the inside out.

From navigating body changes to embracing and celebrating menstruation, creative self care is a rite of passage into adulthood.

It offers the true skills necessary for growing up: taking deep, nourishing, unapologetic care of yourself!

Teens will learn the foundational habits for health and well-being that they can take with them for the rest of their lives.

They’ll cultivate the skills to:

  • care for and love their changing bodies

  • relate to food, nutrition, and eating in balanced, realistic ways

  • develop self-acceptance and a sense of belonging

  • get deep, high-quality sleep (so important for young, maturing brains!)

  • process emotions in healthy ways with tools for reducing stress and anxiety

  • explore avenues for self-expression through group sharing and art-based exercises

To sum it up, we cover just about everything it takes to thrive as the juicy human that they are!

Hi, I’m Crystal.

I’ll be facilitating your journey.

The why

The day I got my period, I didn’t tell a soul.

Instead, I had a panic attack.

I got by with sneaking enormous maxi pads from my mom’s bathroom cabinet until she noticed they were missing.

There was no one I could talk to about the changes happening in my body—from curviness to food cravings—who didn’t approach the subject with shame, embarrassment, and even a sense of disgust.

I believe young people deserve better.

That’s why I’ve created Creative Self Care for Teens.

As a certified health coach, yoga teacher, and Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor, I guide young people through the sometimes fraught world of wellness to discover their own inner voice and the skills make sounds choices when it comes to their bodies, minds, and emotions.

This journey is for young people to learn that their body is inherently beautiful and holds an inner wisdom that can act as a guide through the changing seasons of life.

Your teen’s body is a temple and they are the inner light within. Let’s work together to help that light shine!

The course format

  • Live in-person sessions

    We’ll connect in-person so your teen can make friends, be heard, and learn the foundations of life-long self-care.

  • Explorative art sessions

    We’ll use art-based exercises to help your teen get creative with how they care for and express themselves.

  • One on one support

    Your teen can get personalized, targeted support from their coach with two optional check-in calls after their course ends.

  • Safe, exclusive community

    Your teen can connect with their coach and course members in our safe, exclusive group on the Kajabi app during and after the course.

The when.

2023 Course dates

Courses begin the first week of July and run through August at a local event space (Poulsbo-Kingston area).

Course members can repeat the course for 20% off the original cost to deepen their connection the material and the other members.

 

Choose from two formats:

  • “Summer Camp” style: M-TH for 2 hours in the afternoon

  • Weekly 2-hour sessions on Thursday evenings for 4 weeks

The structure

  • Day one

    Your teen will meet their coach and course cohort, learn the structure of the course, and dive into the basics.

  • Day two

    We’ll go deeper into your teen’s relationship with food, sleep, and their body, learning real skills for self-care.

  • Day three

    Through gentle reflection and reframing, your teen will learn to affirm their own inner voice and perception of themselves.

  • Day four

    Your teen’s time to shine! They’ll reflect their learnings back to the group and to parent participants in a group share.

Who are we?

The course is for young people of all stripes.

We’re asking so much of our teens these days. From massive social shifts to disrupted learning schedules, it’s been several years uncertainty and upheaval.

At the same time, teens have so few resources to support them during what’s already a time of major change in their lives.

Teens deserve strong communities, empathetic elders, and access to the tools that can help them thrive in an ever-changing world.

They deserve to be listened to, taught about their intrinsic worth, supplied with the knowledge to care for their emotional and physical selves, and supported in their journey toward self-actualization.

That’s what they get from Creative Self Care.

The course is not a replacement for therapy.

While Creative Self Care can be a wonderful adjunct to therapy and other related treatments, it’s not a replacement for mental health care from a qualified professional.

If a teen you know is navigating depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, or another mental health condition, it’s essential they get the support they need from a licensed counselor.

Once that happens, Creative Self Care can be a powerful community and resource to buoy their treatment and get them on the track to thriving.

What will we actually do?

Each session, we’ll go over a new self care habit and share where we’re at in our journey.

In addition, we’ll do everything from creativity exercises, journaling, meditating, health practices, intuitive movement, laughing, crying, playing, and whatever else the group needs to learn, integrate, and thrive.

What is the main goal of the course?

The intention of the course is to learn basic, foundational habits for cultivating a lifestyle of self-care.

It’s designed to give your teen an inner barometer for wading through the latest TikTok trends, fitness fads, and headline hype to rely on their own inner wisdom within, balanced with sound nutrition and health know-how.

Do they have to be “artistic” to do the creative exercises?

They don’t have to be anything.

Your teen can show up as themselves, with all of their beautiful quirks, flaws, perfect imperfections, and divine uniqueness.

Can they ask their friends to join?

Yes! You can even receive a 10 percent discount on course enrollment by referring members of your community.
